"So this is permanence; love-shattered pride. What once was innocence, has turned on its side."

'Control' is the retelling of the life and tragic death of Ian curtis, the lead singer of Joy Division. Wonderfully witty and poignant, the film is based on the book 'Touching From A Distance' by his wife, Deborah Curtis.
Having been brought up with my Dad often playing Joy Division around the house or in the car, I grew up finding myself singing along to Joy Division songs I didn't even know I knew. It was really fascinating to see the context of their music and the relevance of the lyrics to what was going on in his life. Despite already knowing how the film would end, the final scenes were still just as desolate and melancholy.
Whether or not you are a fan of Joy Division or New Order, the film is a moving insight into the increasingly unstable mind and body of Curtis and is beautifully shot in brooding black and white, with some amazing camera angles and cinematography from Martin Ruhe and the director Anton Corbijn.
