Some of the best end credits I've ever seen!
I also read an interview (Art Of The Title) with the main director of the sequence, and it was really interesting to see how they eventually came to the final idea. Some of the initial ideas that were tried out are great, like the sequence mapped out below using gorgeous macro shots of the old Victorian printing process.
But I think they made the right decision. The end credits match the atmosphere of the film itself perfectly, and once again, Hans Zimmer is a genius. An actual genius.
That website is a fantastic insight into the production behind these title/end sequences, especially if they've managed to get an interview with the director as, luckily, two of my favourite opening sequences have; Up In The Air and Napolean Dynamite, allowing me to see shots from initial concepts showing the different ideas that were tried and how they got to the end product. (Art Of The Title - Up In The Air)
These contact sheets look amazing and are such an effective way of getting across the atmosphere of the sequence.
