The Trials of Van Occupanther

I'm feeling really folky at the moment. All the music reviewers are singing Midlake's praises at the moment so I decided to check them out. I think this song is my favourite of theirs so far; I love the slightly erratic basspedal drum beat, reminds me a little of a fluttering heartbeat. It's just aswell that my favourite song of theirs also has an amazing video, the first and last 20 seconds especially. The soft focus shifts, faded colour scheme, camera angles and cropped shots create a mesmerising intro and outro to the music video. This is probably one of my favourite shots from the video: she lifts out the medicine pot to reveal the dreamlike, snowy landscape again as if it were all just in her medicine cabinet. The overall imagery of the video matches the haunting melodies of the song perfectly.
